Residential scheme, Allendale

Project details

Due to the development of larger and more technically advanced agricultural equipment, structures such as those at Shaw House farm are becoming redundant or not fit for purpose and are becoming unique opportunities for the conversion into exceptional homes. MWE Architects were commissioned to develop the conversion of the disused structures into 3 large standout dwellings.

With the structures being associated to an adjacent listed farmhouse, the proposals had to be sensitive and sympathetic to the existing buildings with minimal alterations to the structural fabric. The buildings were split proportionately, windows openings reinstated, and the larger openings infilled with glass. Large timber sliding privacy screens have been put forward to allow natural light in the spaces, whilst providing seclusion.

New opportunities were created for the inclusion of courtyard gardens and private outdoor space where possible.  Modern ‘links’ and elements have been introduced to provide light and spacious interiors and to offer unique living spaces for the new dwellings.
