The new Manchester Building Society branch at 74 King Street has now opened, the result of a collaborative effort that brought together client, consultants, and contractors in reimagining one of the city’s most distinctive listed buildings.

Our approach was rooted in dialogue — between historic fabric and modern requirements, between commercial needs and community benefit, and between design disciplines working towards a shared vision. The outcome is a sensitive yet confident adaptation of a Grade II listed structure, retaining its Flemish Renaissance character while creating contemporary spaces for banking, work, and public use.

This project demonstrates how collaboration can unlock the full potential of heritage buildings. By aligning expertise across architecture, engineering, and conservation, the team has delivered a scheme that is both respectful of its setting and forward-looking in its function, reaffirming King Street as a place of civic and architectural significance.
