Project details

This new build residential scheme saw demolition of the redundant Ponteland Library building and construction of 25 Luxury Apartments. The scheme was presented to the local community through a Public Consultation, and working closely with the local residents the scheme was tailored to significantly reduce the scale and impact that the initial proposal had on the surrounding area.

The proposed massing of the development has been separated into two individual blocks, to reduce the impact of the massing of the proposed development from the street view, and to provide views through the development for the occupants of the adjacent Care Home. The two blocks are connected via a glazed bridge ‘link’ at first and second floors.

The material palette was restrained to blend with the Historical buildings to the east of the site. At lower level the facades are faced in a light buff facing brick, which were carefully chosen to embody similar tones to historic stonework. The second floor wall facades were carefully chosen to be in a dark rain screen cladding to blend with the roof material. The Introduction of elements of full height glazing and dark cladding provide interest and variety to the street-scene. Additional tree planting and soft landscaping was introduced to improve the setting of the building.
